Lisa Blakemore-Brown, The British Psychological Society, Dr Rita Pal and the GMC – 2

Still more on this sorry tale of the GMC and the way it does business.

My first post on the story can be found here.

Now, I’d suggest you all go here to read the latest from Dr Aubrey Blumsohn at Scientific Misconduct.

The GMC (like the MHRA) has remained silent about the most serious and damaging integrity failures in medicine. This includes several cases of misrepresentation of commercially motivated pharmaceutical research (by doctors) which has led to untold suffering by patients. To facilitate the integrity lapses, all the GMC had to do was to do nothing – and they have done nothing with unparalleled skill.

And our thanks to Juvenal, for putting it so succinctly.

The way I see sad scenarios like this is..
Basically we have a health system which is heavily reliant on the drugs industry for funding/research/grants/donations etc so in effect the “public” health system has become more or less owned by the pharmaceutical corporations, and their various vested interests etc…

The MHRA does not act for the welfare of the public, nor does it have vested interests in the public. Its sole interest is to facilitate the drugs industry( clients such as GSK etc). It is purely under the guise of “regulation” , but in reality it is clearly nothing more than a lapdog of the pharma industry…

The fact that the Seroxat scandal happened and the sheer size of death, misery, injury and destruction which has come with the unleashing of this defective and dangerously toxic SSRI proves that without a doubt the MHRA has failed, and will continually fail the public unless this corrupt system changes…

The GMC is yet another smokescreen of the public health debate. GP’s are well protected as long as they toe the party line. The same is true for psychiatrists. The ones that rock the boat are dealt with swiftly and sharply.
Dr David Healy – a case in point…

It is a sad state of affiars when industries control more patient welfare than the government..
it is also dangerous to let capitalism run amok in this manner..
There most be stricter governance and a change in public policy in order for this to change..
But we must bear in mind also that industries such as GSK probably earn more than a lot of whole economies , they have huge influence on a broad spectrum of society, from Academia, research, development, sponsorship , stocks/shares etc… Quiet simply , they have too much influence…

    Its kind of like…

If GSK made dodgy cars , and their cars kept crashing because they were faulty, but also they controlled the funding for the roads and they had the car regulators in their back pocket .. Would anything be done to stop them from selling their crap cars ?.. I doubt it… Unless the public rose up themselves… then maybe..

In no other industry would a manufacturor get away with selling so many defective products without being called to book… And in no other industry would a company get away with such callous and devious behaviour…

With GSK , what it bolis down to is this…
GSK have huge investment in UK business, from health to industry and eveything else in between…
One of the unofficial deals of the original merger was that the newly formed entity of GSK would stay put in the UK, thus becoming a great asset to the UK economy…

The UK government will not call GSK to book on any of its various dodgy dealings, unethical behaviour or blatant deception etc because the UK government do not want GSK to see their UK investment attacked , they want GSK to stay.. It is the UK government which has to flatter GSK, not the other way around…

So GSK has kind of become like a rogue corporation, above the law… But there is little the government can do… And little the government is willing to do…

GSK is not a “health care company” , it is a gimmick selling brands and a business expoiting markets and playing the stock exchange…
The MHRA is not a “regulatory” body “safe guarding the publics health” , it is a smokescreen filled with ex-pharma employees , all too willing to pass a drug quickly for a licence to pay their wages …

The GMC ( general medical council) is not an organisation ordained to “esnure good medical practice” or to regulate doctors.. It is yet another wing of government related industry bureaucracy , its existence is to protect its kind , the doctors rights first, not the patients, those unfortunate to speak out or to expose it for what it is will be dealt with swiftly and harsly .. As is Lakemore Brown a case in point…

It will take some brave politicians to bring about change and to take on the might of GSK , the MHRA, the GMC and all the bureaucratic crap that goes with them…

Unfortunately “bravery” is not a common attribute of politicians..

So until then ( as ever) its up to the public to bring about whatever change and awareness they can..

George Orwell would be gobsmacked if he were alive as his concepts have never seemed more prophetic than in the times we live in today… Absolutely Unreal…
